Keeping Parts Alive

Keeping Parts Alive

One of the many cool things about racing an old bike is that friends send you their left over parts. This super light rear rotor is from Kim Nakashima of The Pineapple Mafia. Kim says it was from James Randolph or Dave Stanton. It’s going on Cookie next. Thank you very much.

Why yes! Cookie’s aluminum tank is held in place with Ti Bolts and Carbon Fiber Washers.

Cookie gets a new used air box and new new foam to seal it to the frame.

GSXR tank hinge pins like to fall out when you remove the tank so I cut a grove for an O-Ring to hold it in place.

When you see my number on a bike you can be sure I’ll be racing it soon. Two months till The Willow Spring Superbike Showdown.

No Time to Play

No Time to Play

I hate having play in my controls. Even in the rear brake that I rarely use. Cookie’s brake pin was a little smaller than the hole in the brake lever so I bored the holes out to fit a larger pin that I keep in stock for just this reason. Of course I drilled the new pin down it’s center to save weight. Note that I have the R clip on the outside for easy access. You can see Cookie in action Sept 20th at a CTD Willow track day and Nov 4th & 5th at Willow in the CTD Showdown.

This is an aftermarket support for Cookies shift shaft. It uses a 14 mm shock shaft bushing but the shift shaft is 13.65 mm. I made a new bushing with a 13.70 ID. At the same time I added a 0.3 mm shim to the shift lever pivot to remove the play there. All the little things add up.

I’m taking this time to improve a few small things on Cookie. I drilled and taped the bottom right Lower mount to 6×1 from 5mm so the tool for that bolt will be the same size as the others. Some damaged Kawasaki body work donated a new mounting tap for the Tail.

Cookie Tasting

Cookie Tasting

Yesterdays Cookie Tasting at Streets with Classic Track Days was a success. I found and fixed a few bugs but no big problems showed up. Only 2nd, 3rd & 4th gears needed. I never got to full throttle. Feels like 200 or so HP at the wheel. The brakes are strong! Now it’s time to LE the suspension. Next test is Sept 20 at Willow then race in the CTD Superbike Showdown Nov 4 & 5.
